Acciona Mechanical and Electrical has achieved Steel Sustainability Australia (SSA) Level 2A certification at Acciona’s fabrication workshop in Port Melbourne, Victoria.
The certification - a recognised initiative within both the Infrastructure Sustainability Council rating tools and the Green Building Council of Australia's (GBCA) Responsible Products Framework for their Green Star rating tools – recognises Acciona’s use of products that lower environmental impact, are transparent, respect human rights, and reduce carbon content.
Achieving SSA certification demonstrates Acciona’s commitment to sustainable practices and reinforces its reputation for delivering projects that are distinctive for their innovation, sustainability and social purpose.
“SSA certification provides a clear path for us to demonstrate our alignment with mandating best practice environmental, social, and governance regulations,” Acciona’s operations manager industrial Julia Hay said.
In Australia, Acciona has a significant and growing presence in high-end renewable projects including the HumeLink East electricity transmission line project and Central West Orana Renewable Energy Zone in NSW, the MacIntyre Wind Farm and Lilyvale Solar Farm in Queensland, and the Mortlake South Wind Farm in Victoria. The latter involved the joining of the 35-turbine wind farm to a substation more than 15 kilometres away with 220kV interconnecting underground cables.
“The SSA certification will not only guide Acciona’s sustainable steel production practices but also brings substantial economic and social benefits to our industry and the communities we contribute to.
Acciona’s achievement of SSA Level 2A certification is another significant milestone as we continue to drive the transition towards a low-carbon economy.
We're proud to be contributing to a greener steel industry and setting a new standard for responsible manufacturing practices,” Julia said.
