Steel companies seeking to enhance their sustainability performance need look no further than Ingal Civil Products and Apex Steel Supplies for environmental leadership.
Ingal Civil Products, a manufacturer and galvanizer of safety barriers and road infrastructure products, has been certified to L2B under the ASI’s Steel Sustainability Australia (SSA) scheme since 2023. Its recent re-certification marks a major milestone—becoming the 100th site to sign on to the SSA program. Managing director John Konstandopoulos said SSA certification has strengthened the company’s environmental management systems and its focus on continuous improvement,

Meanwhile, Apex Steel Supplies (SA) has achieved its own significant accomplishment, becoming the first distributor and fifth roll former in Australia to be certified to L2B under SSA. The Adelaide-based company is one of the city’s most diverse steel distributors, offering a wide range of products including structural sections, plates, flats, angles, rounds, pipe, RHS, beams, mesh, roofing, walling, fencing sheets, flashings, and guttering.
Eoin Walsh, environmental, health and safety manager for Valmont Industries—Ingal’s parent company— has assisted the great work completed by Tad Jarominek, Ganeshan Natarajan and Henry Zhang in achieving the SSA certification which has proven an ideal fit for Ingal’s recent growth.
“SSA helps us track the recycling of steel offcuts and zinc, manage chemicals responsibly, reduce energy use, and minimise waste to landfill,” Eoin said. “It supports a circular economy through durable, long-life products that can be fully recycled at end of life. Participating in the scheme has strengthened our sustainability credentials, provided independent recognition of our environmental performance, improved operational efficiency, and helped engage our staff around sustainability goals.”
Eoin particularly praised SSA’s focus on continuous improvement, which he said delivers long-term cost savings and builds stronger relationships with customers.
