ASI focus on circularity

Circularity and ‘nature-positive’ pathways for the built environment were key focuses for the ASI at Australia’s premier event for sustainability leaders, the Green Building Council of Australia’s (GBCA) TRANSFORM 2026 conference in March.

ASI promoted its Steel Sustainability Australia (SSA) scheme at the conference through ASI sustainability advisor Jerusha Beresford and sustainability scheme manager Melinda Coles (pictured).

Highlights of the conference included case studies on two award winning projects - the CommBank Stadium project, which reduced carbon through steel-based circular design and won an ASI Steel Excellence Award, and InfraBuild’s SENSE 600® reinforcing steel, which supported a 30% reduction in carbon for the 55 Pitt St project and took home the Innovation of the Year award at the 16th annual Steelie Awards hosted by the World Steel Association (worldsteel) in Washington, D.C.

ASI’s sustainability insights will take centre stage next month, as Jerusha and Melinda present at the Sydney Build Expo, Australia’s largest construction and design event.

ASI members are encouraged to attend their free session on the sustainability benefits of steel as a circular material at the  Sydney Build Expo, Sydney International Convention Centre at 11am on 30 April.

In other sustainability news, InfraBuild has reiterated its support for the ASI’s Steel Sustainability Australia (SSA) scheme by continuing as a SSA verified steel supplier.

“Our recognition in the SSA scheme supports our customers with meeting their sustainability ambitions, including via the Green Star Buildings and IS ratings tools,” InfraBuild sustainability manager  David Bell said.
